This week’s unemployment figures for the Devizes constituency showed little change over the last month in the numbers claiming jobseekers allowance. But the good news was that the number of Jobcentre Plus vacancies in the constituency soared from 273 in July to 486 in August.
This increase moved the constituency 156 places down the league table which shows which constituencies have the worst ratios of unemployed to vacancies.
Once again it is the increase in part-time employment that has caught commentators’ attention. In the quarter May-July 2012 full-time employment increased by 102,000 and part-time employment by 134,000.
The number of those who have found part-time jobs but want to be in full-time employment has increased to 1,420,000 or 17.9 per cent of all part-time employees.
