A group of caravans, cars and vans invaded the rugby pitch area of Marlborough Common this afternoon (Friday 1 July). A passer-by who witnessed the travellers entering the Common told Marlborough.news that “the barrier wasn’t locked and they just drove straight in”.
No one from the Town Council was available for comment but this follows numerous other traveller incursions, the most recent in the George Lane car park serveral weeks ago.
Previous incursions on the Common passed peacefully and relatively quickly but the Police seemed unsure as to what powers they had to deal with such situations on Common land.
