The Town Council’s Finance and Policy Committee has used up its full grants budget for 2016-2017 with the awards made (December 5) to three charities.
However the total amount in the three applications came to more than the amount left in the budget so the awards were rounded down to fit the remaining sum of £1,644.
The Merchants House gets £844 towards putting up brown tourist signs on the A345, A346 and A4 to bring this attraction to the attention of more visitors to the town. The Marlborough Area Board has already given £875 to fund these signs.
The Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust was awarded £350 which will be ring-fenced to provide free home security for elderly, vulnerable and disadvantaged people living in the town. In the past year the Trust has secured 68 homes in Marlborough.
The national charity Revitalise provides respite breaks with care for people with disabilities and their carers. There are 25 Marlborough people on the charity’s database and there are two confirmed bookings for holiday breaks for people in the town. The average cost of a Revitalise break is £1,813 and the Town Council’s grant was set at £450.
