Marlborough trainer Richard Hannon had strong win at Newbury on Saturday (July 19) when Tiggy Wiggy came home six lengths ahead of the 24-strong field in the Weatherbys Super Sprint.
Ridden by Richard Hughes, Tiggy Wiggy started as the 5/2 favourite for the race. Another Hannon trained horse, Parsley, was sixth. And the yard’s two other horses brought up the rear in 23rd and 24th places.
Saturday’s jump meeting at Market Rasen saw champion jockey A.P. McCoy better the career record of 4,191 wins previously held by his onetime mentor, the trainer Martin Pipe. McCoy, who is part owner of Manton’s Outside Chance pub, won the Summer Plate on It’s A Gimme – taking his career tally to 4,192 winners.
Back at Newbury, Al Kazeem’s return to racing after a reportedly limp performance at stud, saw him take fourth place in the Doom Bar Stakes.
Al Kazeem had series of high profile wins last year including the Eclipse and the Prince of Wales Stakes, then retired, was bought by the Queen and went to the Sandringham stud. Now he is back in training at Roger Charlton’s Beckhampton yard.
