The Department for Transport have told franchise bidders they can run train services eastwards from Bedwyn with nothing more than a diesel shuttle as far as Newbury.
This means that by 2016 all passengers from Bedwyn to Reading and Paddington, would have to change trains at Newbury.
Fifty years after Dr Beeching closed Marlborough’s rail link, the coalition government’s policy is to drastically reduce services from Bedwyn which has become for many Marlborough’s default railhead.
The Bedwyn Trains Passenger Group and Marlborough Climate Pledge are urging rail users to fill the Minister’s in-tray with letters.
The address is: Rt Hon Simon Burns MP, Minister of State for Transport, Department for Transport, Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR.
Transition Marlborough has more information – and there’s now guidance on writing to the Minister.
