President’s Day at Marlborough Golf Club came with a political twist this year. Club President Barry Norridge had organised an EU Referendum Poll.
Following the golf competitions – complete with ‘joker holes’ – eighty Club members placed their ballot papers in a ballot box adorned with glimpses of the union flag.
The Club journal reported on the Poll: “OK, the sample may not be quite big enough to have too much national significance, but it’s probably as good as the ones we’re expected to take seriously.”
The result was fairly close with 54 per cent of the voting members in favour of Britain remaining in the EU. The average age of those club members who are above voting age is sixty.
And just as important to the proceedings, the President’s Day raised £510 for the Prospect Hospice.
