A Wroughton man has admitted drug driving after being stopped in Marlborough. Around 10.15pm on Sunday 8 September 2019, officers stopped a blue Seat Leon outside the Bear Hotel near the Parade. They became suspicious when the male driver starting acting as if he was trying to hide something; he then tried to drive off almost hitting both officers.
Fortunately, one of the officers managed to turn the ignition off preventing the car from going further. A search of the car found cannabis and cocaine.
At Swindon Magistrates Court on Friday 29 November, Mitchell Hicks (28) from Bladen Close, Wroughton, admitted the following charges:
– Possession of a class A and class B drug
– Obstructing a police officer
– Driving a vehicle without insurance and a licence
– Taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent
– Failing to provide a specimen at the roadside
He was given an eight week suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay court and victim services charges. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
Sgt James Robbins said: ”This was excellent work carried out by both officers; having their suspicions raised that the driver was trying to hide something and then managing to stop him from driving off. The car almost hit both officers and this could have ended in serious injury. Luckily it didn’t.
“The message here is that if you get behind the wheel of a car having taken drugs or alcohol, you stand a good chance of being caught and going to prison.”
