Progress on the major housing development in two fields west of the Salisbury Road at the Business Park roundabout has been stalled. The Crown Estate which owns the land, have decided they must wait for the Wiltshire Council’s Core Strategy – or Local Plan – to be completed.
The Core Strategy is itself held up. This summer a planning Inspector will hold seven weeks of hearings in Trowbridge between May 7 and July 4 on issues that have been raised about the draft strategy. He will then need time to adjudicate on evidence put forward at the hearings.
The Salisbury Road development land is part of the Savernake Estate, but it was not included in last week’s sale of Crown Estate lands to Ramsbury Estates Limited.
A representative of the Crown Estate told a recent meeting of Savernake Parish Council that the full consultation on plans for the Salisbury Road housing development would probably not begin before late autumn.
Some work has been done at the site – notably an archaeological test dig. But the results will not be released until the consultation begins.
