Wiltshire Council have put out an invitation for people to go to Devizes to join in the celebrations on Tuesday, October 10 at 3.30pm for the opening of the ‘newly refurbished’ Devizes community hub.
You will be able to see the results of Wiltshire Council spending £330,000 on a ‘community project’ providing a library/hall and space for council services. The project came about with the closure of Wiltshire Council’s Snuff Street customer services.
When Wiltshire Council closed Marlborough’s Youth Centre it left the Town Council to pick up the pieces – which included removing asbestos and carrying out an extensive refurbishment to turn it into the Marlborough Community and Youth Centre.
Now the Town Council is footing the bill for the refurbishment, but it has had a huge £10,000 grant from the Area Board – a committee of Wiltshire Council. The Council now urgently needs to raise money to help with furnishings and basic equipment.
Anyone interested in donating money or in kind should contact the Town Council offices.
