Last week Ogbourne CE Primary pupils were excited to participate in a workshop day run by Kaya Drumming. Lucy Crump, Principal, told Marlborough.news, “We were lucky to secure a grant from Wiltshire Music to fund a musical activity in school. On Wednesday we welcomed Alex from Kaya drumming into school with his huge collection of hand drums and percussion.
Each class had a session where they explored making and following rhythms, layering rhythms, starting and stopping music and adding song and dance to rhythm. In these class sessions, children were able to take turns on different instruments and explore each sound. They were really engaged and happy to have this experience. Drumming and these rhythms and instruments form an important part of many cultures of the world, so this musical day enriched our learning about the different parts of the world we are looking at in class this term.
We were happy that so many parents could join us for our school community drumming circle at the end of the day. This was not a concert – but a chance to join in and have a go with all the children. No one was left empty handed – drums, bells, shakers or boom whackers a plenty! It was an impressive sound! We are grateful to Wiltshire Music for enabling this wonderful musical day to take place in our school.”
