Praise for the Chancellor’s latest spending review has come from Devizes Tory MP Claire Perry, MP, who has welcomed in particular the commitment to reform the current system of school funding.
Mrs Perry says the Chancellor laid out how the government will continue to cut the deficit, prioritise investment in infrastructure to equip Britain to compete in the global race, and ensure fairness for people who work hard and want to get on by further reforming welfare and capping welfare spending in 2015/16 in the run up to the next election.
On school finances, the government is to consult on how to introduce a fair national funding formula so that the amount of per pupil funding a school receives will be based on a fair and rational assessment of the needs of its pupils, including how many pupils are disadvantaged.
“The spending round sets out the actions we will take to secure the recovery, cut the deficit and prioritise spending on things like roads and rail,” Mrs told Marlborough News Online.
“I especially welcome the announcement on fairer school funding. Our Wiltshire schools receive hundreds of pounds less per pupil than in neighbouring counties for no good reason and this commitment means this historic unfairness can now be tackled”.
