Mrs Mary Gray, who held a unique record in Marlborough’s civic life as twice being its Mayoress, died last Friday, in a nursing home, aged 73.
Mrs Gray, one of 15 children born to a Welsh family, held office alongside her husband Tony when he was elected Mayor of the old borough council in 1972-3 and again when he was elected Mayor of the new Marlborough town council in 1990-91.
She also supported him as a member of the now defunct Kennet District Council and his four years as its chairman.
Members of Marlborough town council stood in silent tribute to her at Monday’s meeting.
