Lt Col Neil Stace, who was a runner up in the 2015 series of the Great British Sewing Bee, was the surprise speaker at our Christmas lunch this week.
As a bit of fun, Neil and a friend had joined the sewing group at Primary School and his interest developed from there. He talked about various tours of duty in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Northern Ireland and explained that there was always down time which had to be filled which is why he always included a sewing machine along with his kit.
It was Neil’s wife who had completed the application form for the Great British Sewing Bee and he had to go through a number of interviews and tests before being accepted onto the programme. He showed us several items of clothing he had made including a kilt.
The next meeting of Marlborough & District Embroiderers Guild will be on Monday 6 January 2020 at the Kennet Valley Hall, Lockeridge.
