It’s a year since Marlborough College’s iconic Memorial Hall reopened after a substantial major refit, creating an accoustically excellent state-of-the-art space for all types of performance, and to celebrate this anniversary on Monday 11 November at 7pm there will be a lecture by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence KCVO CB ADC(P) on the subject of Remembrance: The Never Ending Work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Vice Admiral Lawrence was Vice Chair of the Commonwealth War Graves commission until earlier this year. His talk will celebrate the lives of the 740 Old Marlburians who fell in the Great War and to whom the Memorial Hall is dedicated.
The refit of the Hall was comprehensive, more of a complete restoration and cost approximately £6m, raised mainly from the Marlburian community and took twelve months to complete. A key feature of the new Hall is the accoustic qualities, and many perfomers of the past year have decided to play ‘unplugged’ with no PA or amplification to take advantage of the Hall’s qualities.
The talk will be free but to attend contact Fiona Cottrill by email fcottrill@marlboroughcollege.org or call on 01672 892382.
