Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mark Cooper was confirmed as the next Mayor of Marlborough at Monday’s (20 January) meeting of the Full Town Council.
Mark’s appointment as Mayor is another stage in a dynasty as his dad, Maurice Wilson was Mayor twice between 1989/90 and again 2000/01. (Uncle) Stewart Dobson was Mayor twice between 1986/87 and again over the Millennium 1999/2000, and great uncle HW Cooper was Mayor (twice) between 1933/34 and again 1945/46.
Not quite a family business, but a dynasty carrying a long tradition of civic responsibility.
Councillor Andy Wilson was elected to be Mark’s Deputy next year, which means that – subject to election by Councillors in a year’s time – he will be Marlborough’s Mayor for the year 2021-21.
Councillors Cooper and Wilson will take up their new roles at the Mayor-making ceremony to be held at the Annual Town Council meeting on Monday 11 May.
