Due to the pandemic all the traditional Remembrance parades and services are cancelled so St Mary’s Church in Marlborough and St George’s Church in Preshute are creating remembrance ‘Lest We Forget’ boards.
Both churches are encouraging members of the community to come to visit and to contribute to the boards before Armistice Day on November 11.
In St Mary’s at the front on the right is the Lady Chapel and War Memorial where one can pay one’s respects and pray for peace. At the back on the right is the new ‘Lest We Forget’ board. There they are hoping children and others will come and pin poppies they have made.
The church website is offering templates and ideas for age specific poppies and poems. Click here
Commenting on these ideas Rev Chris Smith said, “I do hope people will still take a moment to pause and remember those who gave their lives for us. I hope too they will pay a visit to St Mary’s and say a prayer for peace. The children at Marlborough St Mary’s are hopefully bringing poppies after school. I was so inspired I even had a go. You can find mine marked ‘Chris Smith – Age 48’. Although large services can’t take place it is safe to visit St Mary’s during the day and to come to church on Sundays.”
The boards will be available in both churches from Saturday October 31.
