At its meeting on Monday (March 23) the town council’s Finance and Policy Committee awarded three grants to local organisations – the last awards of this financial year.
The First Marlborough Guides, which is up and running again and meeting at Manton Village Hall, got £1,000 towards supplies for its activities.
Marlborough Amateur Boxing Club got £500 for training equipment such as safe spar gloves, head protectors and skipping ropes.
And Home-Start Kennet, which last year supported 14 Marlborough-based families, got £1,000 towards the costs of supporting two Marlborough families.
However, when councillors found they had £750 left in the grants budget and it would disappear if it was unused, they decided to award an extra £250 to each of the recipients.
The extra money for the Boxing Club came with a slight sting in its tail: the Club will get a letter telling them to clear up the building rubbish from round the Pavilion at Elcot Road.
