Reception children, who are due to start at Kennet Valley C of E VA Primary School in September, have received their first letter from the school inviting them to their induction mornings together with a book about starting school.
One parent commented, “This was a gorgeous gift to get through the post this morning. Thank you so much. We have sat and read the book together and spoken a lot about what school will be like next year. What a lovely idea!”
Reception class teacher, Jacqy McQue, is thrilled to be welcoming the 11 new children into the school in September. She said, “I love teaching in Wrens, our Reception class, because you see the children making such strides in their learning every day. Our class is a vibrant and exciting place to be each day and I know that our new children will add to this when they start in the new school year.”
Many of the children who are starting in September already know the school quite well – not only because some of them have siblings at the school, but because they attend the school’s Stay and Play sessions, Little Angels Toddler group or the Kennet Valley Toddler Group.
Headteacher, Emma Russell, is committed to these sessions knowing that they help children and their parents to feel settled within the school as soon as they start each September. “Our goal is that our children can feel comfortable and at ease within our school as quickly as possible. This means that they can start playing and learning more quickly and feel safe within the school. I am incredibly grateful that the two toddler groups run from our school hall as this helps our children to know the school really well.”
Both Little Angels and Kennet Valley Toddlers are run by local mums and are open to all children under 5. You can find more information about them on Facebook. Emma Russell is always keen to show people around the school. Please contact the school directly if you would like to know more.
