Dashing Claire Perry, the Tory MP for Devizes, has admitted she met her match being introduced to Hollywood Dallas star Joan Collins at last week’s International Women’s Day celebration Prime Minister David Cameron held at No 10.
“I was delighted to meet a brunette vision in spike heels, diamonds and a tight-fitting short black suit – the wonderful Joan Collins OBE,” Claire tells constituents in her local newspaper column. “She is more glamorous at the age of 80 than I will ever be.”
In more serious vein, 49-year-old Claire, now a government assistant whip, praises the work done by Marlborough’s Brandt Group and its support for the people of Gunjur, in the Gambia, with the introduction of clean water, sanitation and education.
And she adds: “I met Justine Greening, the International Development Secretary to hear how the UK’s focus on supporting women and children in our overseas spending and policies is making a huge difference on the ground.
“The Foreign Secretary has also made the prevention of sexual violence in conflict one of the key issues for the Foreign Office, while the Home Office is tackling problems like forced marriage and mutilation of girls, which quite astonishingly still happens in the UK and have not been treated as criminal acts until now.”
