Two of the big races on the second day (June 19) of the Royal Ascot meeting were won by horses trained near Marlborough.
The Group 1 Prince of Wales Stakes was won by Al Kazeem trained by Roger Charlton at Beckhampton. It was a tight finish against Mukhadram with the pre-race favourite Camelot (last year’s Derby winner) fourth.
The winner’s prize money was £288,550.
The next race, the Royal Hunt Cup, was won by Belgian Bill trained at Manton by George Baker.
The jockey aboard both winners was James Doyle who often rides Charlton trained horses. He went on to win the next race as well – achieving a great Ascot treble.
