Bill Spray, who taught at Marlborough College for nineteen years and was a founder of the Marlborough Brandt Group, has died aged ninety-one.
In the second world war he served with the Friends Ambulance Unit in North Africa. He interrupted his time teaching at the College to spend five years as headmaster of a Methodist boarding school in Nigeria.
In 1991 he founded and chaired for ten years the Savernake Hospital Inquiry Fund Trust which saved the hospital and saw its new buildings completed.
He was the first Chairman of the Marlborough Brandt Group and then its President, and was instrumental in 1982 in setting up the Lent Lecture on international and development topics which is still an annual event in Marlborough’s calendar.
