Marlborough News Online is hearing reports that certain bus routes serving the area are likely to be cut as Wiltshire Council reviews its subsidies. The Council has begun a consultation which lasts until May 14.
Early buses (which affect people travelling to work), late afternoon services (which affect students staying at school for clubs) and night services are all said to be likely targets for cuts.
Wiltshire Council told Marlborough News Online: “Due to the current pressures on spending and reductions in funding, we have to use our money in the most cost-effective way.”
“As part of that task we are currently reviewing the local Connect2 Wiltshire bus service, which is part of an ongoing series of reviews looking at poorly-used bus services which require a relatively high level of council funding in relation to the number of passengers they carry.”
“Our aim is to identify a way to meet local transport needs that can be financially sustainable for the future.”
