Marlborough town councillors are being invited to go walkabout in Priory Gardens to see for themselves the damage done to some of its trees by teenage vandals.
Talks are also to take place with the police to deter the gardens being used for drug taking.
Councillor Richard Pitts, who chairs the council’s Amenities and Open Spaces Committee, has warned that publicity about the abuse of the gardens in the past has only served to heighten the amount of damage being caused.
Now he is seeking measures to restore the peaceful use of the gardens, pointing out: “Some trees have been quite seriously vandalised and we shall need to replace them.”
