Tory MP Claire Perry has written to Alistair Phillips-Davies, chief executive of Scottish and Southern Energy seeking explanations of its slow response to customers whose supplies were hit during recent storms when 80mph winds brought down power lines.
He was one of the six major energy supply companies who faced the House of Commons Energy Select Committee to prove answers to the concerns of 750,000 customers left without electricity during the Christmas period.
Select Committee chairman Tim Yeo MP told the company chiefs they were exploiting their “privileged monopoly position” and were in fact displaying “neglect” for their customers.
“Not only were some of my constituents off the grid for up to six days over Christmas, but communication from SSE about restoration of power was at best confusing or worse non-existent,” protested Mrs Perry.
“This is simply unacceptable. I have sought answers from Alistair Phillips-Davies and I am very disappointed that I have still not received responses. I do think that electricity companies’ priorities have been misplaced and my constituents deserve far more.”
