There are eight names inscribed on Wilcot village war memorial – eight villagers who did not come back from the First World War.
Now Wilcot resident Tim Hollier is trying to contact relatives of those eight village men from the Wiltshire and other Regiments who were killed in that war.
The names are: W.G. LOVELOCK, B. STAGG, T. BERRET, W.F. BURTON, G.S. SMITH, A.E. PLANK, S.H. SMITH and F.R. WOLLEN.
Anyone who has clues that may help is asked to contact Tim Hollier: tim@atlanticscreengroup.com
Eight of the ceramic poppies from last year’s memorial display at the Tower of London, have been bought by the village to honour the men. They have been set in an oak stand and will have a permanent position in the village church.
Tis new memorial will be presented to the village at a special ceremony on Sunday, May 10 – the Sunday after the VE-Day anniversary.
