The Aster Group have sold one of their ‘general needs’ social housing rental homes in Great Bedwyn. The two bedroom, semi-detached house, No. 3 Railway Terrace, is in need of modernisation.
The property was on the market with a guide price of £250,000. It was not a sheltered accommodation home.
An Aster Group spokesperson told Marlborough News Online: “We carried out a full appraisal of the property at Railway Terrace and decided that, due to its age and the cost of bringing it up to modern standards and maintaining it, the most sensible option would be to sell it.”
“This decision has been supported by the local authority and also complies with the Homes and Communities Agency’s Value for Money standard.”
“Aster is a not-for-dividend organisation – the money generated by the sale of this home and other similar properties is being reinvested so we can build more affordable homes in the areas where they are most needed.
“It’s our vision that everyone should have a home and we’re committed to playing a full part in tackling the housing shortage.”
It is understood locally that the property has been sold as a buy-to-let investment.
Two houses in Railway Terrace – Nos. Three and Six – have been empty for sometime after the deaths of their tenants. Both houses had been adapted for disabled tenants.
