There was a wet welcome for the forty people who turned out for Action for the River Kennet’s (ARK) Summer River Walk on Saturday (August 27).
The event – supported by Thames Water – went ahead despite the torrential rain, thunder and lightning that dominated the afternoon.
Forty people now have firsthand experience of what fills the River Kennet – rain!
The walkers took to usually private stretches of riverbank along the River Kennet from Marlborough to Axford and had the opportunity along the route to see a recent river restoration project carried out as part of the Minal River Project. 2,500 tonnes of gravel were put into the river to replace the gravels dredged out in the 1970s.
Tea and home made cakes were a welcome addition to the day, served from a shepherd’s hut at Werg Mill in Minal.
