Action for the River Kennet (ARK) has received a £5,000 funding boost from the SITA Trust for their Access Stonebridge project.
The award means that public access can be greatly improved to a beautiful stretch of the River Kennet – a valuable chalk stream surrounded by plenty of wildlife and wild flowers.
Stonebridge Wild River Reserve is a 15 acre water meadow jointly owned by Marlborough Town Council and ARK with the river flowing through it.
Anna Forbes ARK’s Project Officer and Volunteer Co-ordinator who is leading the project said, “Stonebridge is such a valued site by the community. It is brilliant to receive this funding and be able to carry out a project that will enable more people to enjoy all it has to offer all year round.”
“We want to create more ways and better ways for the public to enjoy and interact with this natural space and the amazing wildlife it supports.”
The SITA Trust provides grants through the Landfill Communities Fund. It has provided funding since 1997 and has provided projects with more than £1.4 billion to 53,000 projects across the United Kingdom.
The SITA Trust concentrates its funding on improving vital public recreation facilities such as village halls, community centres, sport, heritage, green spaces and play areas.
