Wiltshire Council in conjunction with local businesses has launched a new scholarship scheme for future olympians and paralympians. Ten scholarships worth £500 each are on offer to young Wiltshire athletes.
Reflecting the example of the Commonwealth Games’ successful integration of paralympic events into the athletics programme, these scholarships will support any young person aged between eight and 16 who is competing at a regional or national development squad level in either a summer or winter olympic, or paralympic sport – as well as any sport recognised by Sport England.
Individuals can use the grant to enhance their training and competition opportunities, buy new equipment and help with travel costs.
The deadline for applications is 5.00pm on Friday, September 19. Applications forms can be downloaded. Tamzin Earley can answer questions – 07824414507.
