Business owners in Marlborough are being urged to decorate their premises with planters and hanging baskets on a floral theme of citrus as the town makes a bid to win more prizes in the Britain in Bloom awards.
Last year organisers came home with five prizes – including a category winner’s cup, the Best New Entry trophy, and the Best Community Initiative Award – from the South West in Bloom competition. It was the first time for many years that Marlborough had entered Britain in Bloom, and this year, they hope to do even better.
While traders are welcome to arrange their own planting, the Town Council and Chamber of Commerce are recommending the use of a single supplier to ensure uniformity.
The competition organisers are working with Tony Archer of Superior Plants. A basket and flowers costs £32, plus £45 for maintenance and watering. Superior Plants can be contacted on 01380 813210.
Britain in Bloom judges will visit the town on July 14, and mark the entry on three criteria: horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility, and community participation.
