Each autumn, I would get my grandchildren to plant three conkers and three acorns in pots, water them and leave them. They invariably came up, strong and sturdy plants.
We gave up when the children got too old and we ran out of friends to take them.
One such acorn is now over 8ft and is planted alongside my husband’s grave at The Natural Burial Ground, Cholderton.
A cheap and easy way to increase the stock of native trees.
