I am grateful to Alan Oliver for reinforcing my arguments for a second referendum.
While I made it clear in my article that, as an internationalist at heart, I despaired following the result of the 2016 referendum and the decision to leave the EU, the focus of what I wrote was the argument that following an in depth independent study of the impact of Brexit on all aspects of life in the UK (from economic and political to social) we should hold a second referendum.
The title of my article was “The rational argument for proposing a second referendum”. It was not, as Alan Oliver suggests, “The rational argument for re-joining the EU”, .
His arguments against membership of the EU which I have no doubt would be supported and simultaneously challenged by many, simply support my arguments for the need for a second referendum
