Sirs,
I wish to advise intrepid/foolhardy pedestrians that have to reach the Marlborough Business Park and return via the only pedestrian access to this facility of my efforts to get the extreme hazard on that narrow path near to the old rail bridge cutting returned to a reasonably safe condition.
At the moment there is a bank slip that has covered around half of the path causing a mud bump that has to be perilously negotiated and getting obscured by a bush growing at that point as well, this hazard is grossly exacerbated when it is wet or raining.
I have to cope with this on a mobility scooter or walking but I feel mostly for those who push prams, child buggies, wheel chairs and the like and wouldn’t be surprised if this obstacle precludes many even trying to tackle it at all to the disadvantage of the businessess and retailers in the Park.
I followed protocol and advised the appropriate department of Wiltshire Council of my concerns and was amazed to get the following reply:
‘Thank you for your email, I have had a look at your report (XXXXX) on ‘MyWilts’ here is your reply from the Highways team:
Thank you for your report. This issue does not meet the intervention levels for repair set out in Wiltshire Council’s Safety Inspection Manual. We will continue to monitor the issue through our routine Highway Safety Inspections.’
I deeply deplore this answer and have referred the matter to The MarlboroughTown Council [despite it not being their responsibility – I think] for advice and guidance on how this matter can be escalated to a higher authority for sympathetic investigation and action.
Yours,
Terry Baldwin
