St John’s Academy will open only for students in Years 7,11 and 13 from tomorrow, Thursday March 19 for the foreseeable future. The school has struggled with staff shortages due to the self-isolation directive for staff if they are part of a vulnerable group or if either they or their family members are displaying any of the symptoms outlined by GOV UK.
Students will be able to access a great deal of resources on line through ‘Show my Homework’ and their school email account in order to continue studying at home. They will also be taking home books, portfolios and other resources today. Further advice and guidance can be found on the school website and will be regularly updated.
If this decision affects those who are key frontline workers in health, education, law and order or the military, St John’s is asking that you contact them on covid19@stjohns.excalibur.org.uk. The school will see if they can help.
Writing in a letter to parents, Ian Tucker, Principal of St John’s said, “The recent decisions have not been taken lightly at all and we deeply regret having to be the ones to make them, but we simply do not have the staff to be able to operate the school normally for the time being.”
All schools in Scotland and Wales will shut from Friday.
