On Saturday 30 May The Merchant’s House will be holding their first ever ‘virtual’ event, Sophie Matthews will be presenting ‘Music in Art’ to an audience of paying digital clients via the ‘Zoom’ platform.
“Sadly we have had to postpone more than 20 ticketed events until safer times” explained James Macbeth, The Merchant’s House Events Manager.
“The impact has not only been felt by the Merchant’s House, but also by our performers, many of whom are unable to work at this time.” he added, “We have worked closely with Sophie Matthews (who was originally booked to entertain us in the panelled chamber on the 28th March) to develop a live online version of her acclaimed ‘Music in Art’ presentation. Anyone who who has access to a computer, laptop, tablet or phone wherever they are in the world can watch her presentation and participate in the Q&A session afterward.
The Merchant’s House’ gift shop and guided tours of the House should be open ‘as soon as possible’, but James was cautious about when events could return to the intimate and atmospheric surroundings of the House’s panelled chamber.
Ha added that “Our 2020 events programme has been postponed – not cancelled – all of our performers, musicians and lecturers have generously agreed to re-arrange their events so all is not lost. Within the programme we had several events booked at the Town Hall and St Peters, and these will be re-arranged as soon as the venues re-open.”
The Merchant’s House are supported by a large number of Friends and Volunteers and this ‘toe-in-the-water’ live online event is a new and positive initiative designed to maintain the connection with this vibrant community. “We are already receiving ticket requests from far and wide so this new initiative may also prove helpful in broadening our supporter base.” noted James.
