‘Painting in Challenging Times’ – a talk by David Evans, presented by The Merchant’s House

The talk examines the reflection in the art of the time of British success in the Seven Years War, the crisis brought about by defeat in America and the attack on slavery and recovery in the early 19th century as the slave trade was abolished and the challenge of Napoleonic France was beaten off.
