KENNET DECORATIVE AND FINE ARTS SOCIETY

**NOTE THE DATE: A WEEK EARLIER THIS MONTH DUE TO EASTER**

VIVALDI IN VENICE
– a lecture by Peter Medhurst – with live & recorded music
on Monday, 10 April 2017 at the Ellendune Centre, Wroughton – coffee from 10.00am – lecture starts at 10.55am – guests welcome

Vivaldi is the one composer whose music is a direct reflection of the city in which it was composed. Listen to a Vivaldi concerto and you are readily transported directly to the heart of 18th century Venice. Vivaldi’s music is full of colour and display, very much a reflection of the decadent city in which he lived. Furthermore his work was strongly related to the charitable institutions with which Venice tried to solve the increasing problem of poverty and homelessness. Furthermore Vivaldi was a priest, something of an eccentric and a larger than life personality – all of which which is reflected in his music.
His music is as Venetian as the contemporary canvases of Canaletto.

Peter Medhurst gives recitals and delivers illustrated lectures and the arts on a number of musical themes. He studied singing and early keyboard instruments at the Royal College of Music and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg
