Vivaldi is the oneÂÂ composer whose music is a direct reflection of the city in which it was composed. Listen to a Vivaldi concerto andÂÂ you are readily transported directly to the heart of 18th century Venice.ÂÂ Vivaldi’s music is full of colour and display, very much a reflection of the decadent city in which he lived. Furthermore his work was strongly relatedÂÂ to the charitable institutions with which Venice tried to solve the increasing problem of poverty and homelessness. Furthermore Vivaldi was a priest, something of an eccentric and a larger than life personality – all of whichÂÂ which is reflected in his music. Peter Medhurst givesÂÂ recitals and deliversÂÂ illustrated lectures and the arts on a number of musical themes. He studied singing and early keyboard instruments at the Royal College of Music and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg |
