‘From Marlborough & Abroad’ – an exhibition by Edward Twohig at Katharine House Gallery
12 October 2023 @ 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

An exhibition of works by Fellow and Hon. Curator of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and Head of Art at Marlborough College, Edward Twohig, entitled ‘From Marlborough & Abroad’ will be taking place at Katharine House Gallery, 20 The Parade, Marlborough, from the 4th to the 13th October.
The exhibition consists of works inspired by scenes across Wiltshire and further afield in Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Chile, Italy, Samoa and Venezuela.
Former Marlborough Head of Art, Richard Shirley Smith, will be opening this exhibition on Wednesday, 4th October at 7pm followed by a short ‘walk & talk’ explaining key works their context, influences and inspirations by the artist.
Quote by Edward Twohig: ‘While in full creative flow I am conscious of striking a balance between levels of precision coupled with some ambiguity in order to add mystery. Wiltshire is a brilliant base for a pastoral printmaker fortified by frequent visits to Italy and Azerbaijan. In sequence, each composition becomes a visual diary. I would like viewers to enjoy the painterly expression contained within this work on aesthetic grounds, to get to know this work, delight in colour combinations and rhythms. On a deeper level and with growing awareness, allow this work to speak and influence so that the next time a viewer goes for a walk-in nature, she or he can open themselves to the wonder and bounty of the perpetually changing natural surroundings. Ultimately, I would like the viewer to learn about themselves though the visual.’
Chris Gange, Director of Katharine House Gallery, and Edward Twohig, will put aside 15% from sales towards the Marlborough College Bursary.
