CROFTON IN STEAM – over Bank Holiday Weekend
7 May 2018 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
Crofton’s Beam Engines will be in steam over the May bank holiday from 10.30am to 4.30pm each day – Saturday 5thto Monday 7thMay.
Pumping water to the top of the Kennet and Avon canal at over 10 tons a minute was the reason for Crofton Pumping Station’s existence and it is a job it has been doing for over 200 years. Grown ups and children alike can get close to our coal fired Lancashire boiler feeding steam to the massive cylinders of our beam engines. Crofton is a world class example of our industrial heritage set in a beautiful location in the Wiltshire countryside.
Crofton is undergoing a huge renovation part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Your visit will also allow you to see progress in this work to ensure that our building and engines can work for many years to come.
The Engineman’s Rest Café will be open to serve up freshly prepared food and drinks all produced from locally sourced ingredients.
