21 May 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:59 pm
The Arts Society Kennet and Swindon

The May meeting of the Society starts promptly at 10.55 on Monday, 21 May
at the Ellendune Centre, Wroughton.   Coffee will be served from 10 00.
The Lecture: How time was told throughout the ages:

Throughout history humans have been absorbed with understanding

the concept of Time and how it can be measured.

It has enabled us to order the way we do things – how long things should take and when to do them.
Time has ruled our lives.
This lecture will explore the history of time-telling devices from Pre-History to Modern Times.
The Lecturer: Kevin Karney was brought up in Northumberland and educated at Rugby School

and Trinity College Cambridge where he read Natural Sciences.

After two years as a VSO teacher in North Borneo, he worked for 33 years in the oil business in many parts of the world.
He has had a lifelong interest in the subject of time-keeping – from both a technical and a historical perspective.
He is a member of both the British and the North American Sundial Societies.
Guests are always welcome
