‘A Few Favourite Things’ – an exhibition for Remembrance Day at The Talos Art Gallery, near Calne
8 November 2021 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
A Few Favourite Things, the November exhibition from Talos Art Gallery near Calne, looks towards the festive season and commemorates Remembrance Day.
From a War Memorial by Richard Atkinson-Willes, to a life-sized Lester Piggott by portrait sculptor William Newton, the bronze-cast sculptures range from small, mantel-sized art to garden centre pieces.
The first of the original nine sculptures of jockey Lester Piggott was unveiled by the Queen at Epsom racecourse, with others at eight racecourses around the UK.
The sculptures cast at Talos Art Foundry will show alongside work created by artists from the adjoining Project Workshops, both near Andover, including stoneware animals by ceramist Elaine Peto and handblown Christmas baubles by Roman glassmakers David Hill and Mark Taylor, who regularly supply the film and TV industry.
Talos Art Gallery opened online in 2020, and then to the public in July 2021 for a well-received exhibition by internationally renowned equestrian sculptor, Emma Mac Dermott. The gallery is housed in the former rural farm’s Victorian dairy buildings restored by the owners, Sara Fogg and Richard Atkinson-Willes.
Richard said, “I am lucky to see hundreds of fabulous sculptures passing through the Talos Art Foundry every year – and this is a selection of some recent, personal favourites. The exhibition also includes ceramic sculpture by one of my favourite artists, Elaine Peto, and is set to be a celebration of beautiful things – with a Christmassy touch, of course!”
A Few Favourite Things is free to enter, open 10am-5pm, Saturday 6 November through to Sunday 14 November. For more information, visit talosartgallery.co.uk
