2nd Marlborough Scout Group – AGM – and help towards fundraising for a new Scout Hut roof
3 June @ 6:00 pm
Volunteers required, and help towards a much-needed roof repair for the Scout hut as well.
2nd Marlborough Scout Group is a registered charity and is run completely by volunteers, we are a not for profit organisation. We currently have 1 Beaver section, 2 Cub sections and 2 Scout sections. Beavers age range is 6-8 years old, Cubs are 8-10 ½ and Scouts are 10 ½ -14-year olds. We are a fully inclusive group and currently have some young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We have approximately 100 young people accessing Scouting activities once a week during term time and we have a waiting list of young people wishing to join our group.
The hut is hired out to various groups which cater for a wide age group from birth to the elderly. An example of some of the types of our regular hirers are Bridge, Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Music and Movement with Mummy, Age UK, U3A art class and a Dance Class. We also hire out our premises on a ad-hoc basis for sales, charitable sales, birthday parties, other Scouting Groups, sleepovers for other Scouting Groups and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. We aim to keep our charges for hire as low as we possibly can, reduced hire rate for Scouting Groups within our District. However on a case-by-case, we do free hire for charities or individuals wishing to use our facilities to raise money for a good cause. We estimate the number of users of our facilities is around 500 people a week.
But the hut needs a new roof…….
The hut has developed an internal leak from the roof during heavy rain. A survey has revealed that the felt on the roof was at the end of its life and in desperate need of replacing. The trustees are concerned that the roof in its current state will not survive another winter, therefore rendering the hut unusable by both our young people and the other members of our community who use our building.
