Vote for me. Let me represent you at the upcoming Town Council election. As a resident of 30 years, I want the best for our community. As a user of services and amenities in Marlborough I want to shape a better future for our community. I am dedicated, hardworking and motivated.
I moved to Marlborough when to my husband’s job relocated to the area. The buzz and liveliness of Marlborough and its High Street initially attracted us to the town, and we have been here ever since.
Prior to having my first child, I volunteered to be a Special Constable based in Marlborough because I wanted to help people in the community, and this is still my motivation today in standing for Marlborough West for the Town Council.
Although I worked in Swindon, I chose child care options in the Marlborough area to give my children the chance to make friends who lived locally.
Both my children were educated in Marlborough through local schools (Preshute and St John’s). I firmly believe that children should make friends from all walks of life, and that local state or academy schools encourage a feeling of community and belonging to a place where you live.
I became involved as a Parent Helper in Cubs and later brought my administrative skills to the Scout Executive Committee as Secretary. I was strongly motivated to help my community, by supporting young people to achieve goals and given them opportunities to engage in activities outside the school environment. This is something that I have seen gives a young person confidence in their abilities throughout life.
I am passionate about all people having the opportunity to achieve personal dreams and exceed expectations, something that I have been able to do myself. After leaving school at 16, with basic qualifications, I was able to add to those skills and qualifications, firstly, through support at work achieve an NVQ 3 qualification. This motivated me to go further via an access course and then a full Degree course with the Open University, whilst working and bringing up my children to finally graduate after 7 years with a BA in Politics, Philosophy & Economics in 2022.
The confidence that this achievement has given me has enabled me to put myself forward to represent my community in Marlborough West. I believe that by listening to the community’s concerns Town Councillors can best address Marlborough’s interests.
I, like many residents, am worried about how the lack of affordable housing, lack of public transport to get to employment opportunities and lack of investment in infrastructure are affecting the town. The recent decision by Wiltshire Council to pull out of Visit Wiltshire, shows no foresight of the opportunities to encourage tourists and visitors to the area, who will spend money in our shops, pubs and cafes. I can see Marlborough left behind compared to other areas, with little opportunities for people to live, work and enjoy leisure in Marlborough.
Vote for me, and I will bring motivation, enthusiasm and passion to work to achieve better opportunities for all, to help everyone in Marlborough to achieve their personal goals. I am hopeful that this would be the start of the Liberal Democrat led change across the whole of the new East Wiltshire constituency.
