In September we reported that No. 10 on the south side of the High Street and towards its eastern end, had been let to the gift retailers Huttons. The building used to house the Age of Elegance shop and has been undergoing restoration and some complex planning applications for several years.
We now learn that Huttons pulled out at the last moment and the shop remains empty. It is now being marketed by the commercial property consultants Kilpatrick and Co (formerly Thompsons) of Swindon. The owners hope to let the shop by March next year.
Huttons – as the shop was to be be known – is an independent retailer which stocks gifts, fashion accessories, homewares, furniture and more. It is not clear why Huttons did not go through with the deal – they had been expected to open at No. 10 towards the end of this month.
