The St. John’s Academy Under 15 cricket team have won the South West ‘Chance to Shine’ Championship held at Bristol Grammar School (July 10).
The team qualified for the final from the Wiltshire County Chance to Shine Cricket Competition. Chance to Shine is a national charity that aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket.
Mr D. Wilson is the St. John’s PE teacher who has worked with the team: “In the group stage, we made a slow start, losing to Downend, before comprehensively winning our next two games which helped us win our group on runs scored.”
“The final was played against Clevedon School. Some excellent bowling from St. John’s restricted Clevedon to fifty-five runs. Joe Kellow opened the batting well hitting two sixes before being caught deep for nineteen. With two overs to play and seventeen runs needed, Alby Berridge produced an excellent batting display, winning the tournament with a huge six and an over to spare.”
“Massive congratulations to the nine boys involved who all played outstanding cricket.”
