Preshute Primary School held a whole day of Royal Wedding Celebrations on the Friday (May 18) – the day before that other and real Royal Wedding.
Teacher, Toni Holness explained: “We held an enrichment curriculum day relating to the Royal Wedding. Each class has carried out challenging activities according to their ability.”
It was all things Royal. Year 2 made carriages, Year 3 made crowns, Year 4 decorated mugs with a royal design. Year 5 baked scones, while Year 6 made smoothies with banana yoghurt (white), blueberries and grapes(blue), strawberries(red) – with, of course, a squirt of cream on the top.
The whole school was covered in bunting and a whole school picnic was held at lunchtime. “It’s just been wonderful, a real pleasure, especially for Year 6 who have been busy doing SATs all week,” said teaching assistant Laura Leeming.
The climax of the day was a ‘wedding’ in St. George’s Church, Preshute. Acted out by Year 6 pupils and their reception class buddies, Year 6 pupils had planned and orchestrated the entire ceremony from live music to prayers. They made the flowers and designed the programme.
There were two Archbishops, several queens, a lot of page boys and bridesmaids as well as wedding guests. Everyone dressed appropriately for the occasion.
“This developed the organisational skills of Year 6 and the performance skills of the Reception class,” said Toni Holness. “And of course the activity also helped the children’s understanding of a wedding and marriage.”
Meanwhile at Little Saints Nursery in Pewsey, children from a range of classes have been making crowns, crafting cardboard into wedding cakes, making bunting, and designing dresses. They too dressed up to act out a wedding.
The classes have names marking pupils’ growth – Little Buds are 0-2 years, Acorns are 2-3 years, Saplings are 3-4 years and Little Oaks 4 years and over. [Click on photos to enlarge them.]
