Family members who care for people living with dementia will be able to find information, tips and support at a free training course in Devizes this autumn.
The seven weekly sessions will be run from September to November by the Wiltshire charity Alzheimer’s Support.
The sessions will help people understand what is happening to their relative or friend as different types of dementia develop, and focus on what they can do to support them.
There are also sessions on the practical aspects of caring, including financial and legal issues.
Kate Sharpe is Alzheimer’s Support community services co-ordinator: “We run these courses twice a year. People pick up invaluable tips for how to support their loved ones and how to look after themselves.”
“Just meeting others in a similar situation can be helpful and carers who come often continue to get together informally after the course has ended.”
The course is funded by Wiltshire Council and is free to family carers. It will be held on Wednesday mornings at St Andrews Methodist Church in Devizes from October 2.
