Big Issue’s Scoop has died
Marlborough High Street has lost one of its best known characters.
Scoop, the Bordeaux Mastiff who sold copies of the Big Issue outside Waitrose along side his owner, Postie, has died at the age of twelve and a half.
Scoop, who was liver and black, spent the days on a rug, and was very friendly - despite his ferocious features.
Postie - Lloyd Rusdale - got him in Suffolk as a puppy and for the first six years they slept rough together as no landlord would accept pets. Then Postie came to Marlborough and Aster Housing found him a flat where he could have the dog.
They were inseparable until the almost the very end when uncharacteristically Scoop disappeared. Postie was extremely worried until he found him a few hours later - apparently fit and well.
But then last week he died. Postie was so upset that for several days he couldn’t talk to customers on his normal pitch outside Waitrose. He was frightened of breaking down.
But he is back there now. He says he won’t get another dog immediately as he wouldn’t be able to replace Scoop. Scoop was known to some as Scoob.
