Area Board's special event for youth groups & volunteering
Marlborough Area Board are hosting an event this Tuesday evening (March 13), featuring groups that work with young people.
It's at Marlborough's new Community and Youth Centre in St Margaret's Mead for an hour from 6pm and will be a chance to see the range of activities in the area, chat to the people who run these groups and find out more about volunteering with them.
For those who have thought about giving their time and working on projects for young people, this will be an excellent chance to see what's out there.
There are already more than a dozen local groups signed up to the event - ranging from dance and drama to a local brass band, and from sports clubs, environmental groups to hi-tech coding.
There will be staff from Wiltshire Community Foundation, Youth Action Wiltshire and officers from Marlborough Area Board on hand to chat about funding, practical support for community groups, training and safeguarding advice
The groups taking part will be bidding for a chance to earn up to £500 towards projects and activities for young people. They will be working hard to convince the audience to vote for their projects by putting tokens in a box.
This is called 'participatory budgeting' and will be the first time Marlborough Area Board asks attendees at a meeting to help decide on funding like this.
Straight after this event at 7pm, Marlborough Area Board's meeting takes over with further information and support for local organisations. There will be speakers from Wiltshire Community Foundation and from Youth Action Wiltshire.
