After years of planning and construction work with an investment of £7.9 million, the Vale Community Campus – Pewsey’s new leisure centre – opened last week (28 November).
The redeveloped centre includes a state-of-the-art fitness suite, a new four-lane 25m swimming pool with family-friendly village changing facilities, fitness studio, sports hall with cricket nets, meeting rooms and a café with atrium overlooking the pool.
The centre will provide swimming lessons for young people, as well as a full timetable of swimming and group exercise classes. Parking is free for up to three hours, and electric car charging points have been provided.
John Thomson is Wiltshire Council cabinet member for the campus programme: “We’re really pleased the campus has opened. The local community has been at the heart of this new centre, helping with the design and range of facilities that will be available to residents in Pewsey and the surrounding area.”
“The new centre has seen an investment of almost £7.9 million in the Pewsey area, to provide a range of excellent leisure and community facilities. I encourage you all to come and down and visit this wonderful centre”.
Jerry Kunkler is Wiltshire Council portfolio holder for leisure and sport: “It was great to see so many people visit and signing up to use the facilities. It is a fantastic asset for the Pewsey community area and we’ve had so much positive feedback already.”
First into pool were swimmers Julia McMurtrie and Janine Gosling. Julia: “The pool is a great temperature and it is so clean – it’s absolutely amazing.” Janine: “To have a new facility like this for Pewsey is absolutely amazing. We need to encourage people to use the facilities.”
The first 100 people to sign-up for a new Life Zone, Fitness Zone or Swim Zone leisure membership, will not have to pay an administration fee and will get the first full month of membership for free.
